Profile

Having worked in the industry since I was 17, I have dedicated my life to learning. My continuous journey of education, which started with BHS exams and a degree in Equine Studies with applied physical therapy. Through experience of working with horses and riders I am able to pass on this knowledge so my clients have a better connection with their horses.

My time spent working and training with horses in the U.K. and Canada has given me tremendous understanding.  Among the many trainers who have guided me in my career, the most influential are Julia Kirby, PSG competitor and Helen Barton-Smith BHSI who achieved the Silver Stirrup Award for training grass roots riders and who produced young event horses before setting up successful riding stables. Through her, I gained considerable knowledge and experience training young riders and horses.

After spending three years in Canada, I trained with Elaine Ward, Western Dressage champion. Other experience gained while in Canada was learning French Classical Dressage methods used by international trainer Phillipe Karl.

I am a member of the International Society of Equitation Science and in my teaching, I follow the principles of this society to make sure my training is ethical.

Along this journey I have met many different horse and rider combinations. Through this I have become very good at tailoring lessons to suit all types of riders, with different goals.

Work Experience

I am registered with the British Horse Society and have my International Trainers passport level one.  I value the hands on experience I have gained from BHS approved centres across the U.K after spending nearly ten years teaching. My time in Canada was spent working with horse owners on a one-to-one basis.

Continuous Professional Development

2024- I am currently a student Instructor of the school of Legerete and this summer I shall be attending the Masterson Method body work to begin working to certification in body work too.

2020-2021 I purchased my dream horse! Foretta - a Lusitano - was already in foal, so I now have not only my own horse, but a beautiful youngster to bring on. I was really lucky to have the opportunity to take Foretta training with Sylvia Loch. I am currently learning from PK licensed instructor Derek Clark on the online Dressage Made Simple course. Alongside this I am having monthly mini clinics with Kat Layfield (trainee PK instructor) as well auditing the PK Instructor's training course.

Prior to this I have been training in a Portuguese school, riding school masters! In 2018 I worked as trainer for some BE event horses as well as teaching pony club. In 2017 I attended the ISES in Rome focusing on equine welfare training housing ect.

In 2016 I attended the ISES conference is Saumur in France, and I was privileged to see the Le Carde Noir Riding school in action. In 2015 I attended the International Society of Equitation Science Conference held in Vancouver at the University of British Columbia. This gave an exciting insight into what is happening globally from the work being produced by ISES.
